Aimspro Syringe

Aimspro is now available as “Specials’ on a named patient basis, although when we went to press we had not heard of anyone who has managed to get it yet As we understand it, this can only be done by seeing a doctor privately and paying for it This could be your GP if s/he agrees, or you could be referred to another doctor.

Cost

We have differing amounts, but £200 per injection is a figure we keep on hearing, so if you had two injections per week, it would cost £20,800 a year. As we stress, the exact figure has not yet been decided, so this is only a guesstimate.

G.P’s Pack

The first step is for your own GP to write to Daval. They will be sent a guidance letter and further information on Aimspro. In the next few weeks, they will also be sent a full Information Pack containing all the scientific data on Aimspro.
The procedure is understood to be as follows: Your GP (or other doctor) writes a prescription for Aimspro. The patient takes it to the pharmacist. Aimspro is delivered in a frozen pack and the pharmacist keeps it frozen until the patient collects it. You must keep it frozen.

Patients will be asked to sign a disclaimer absolving the doctor from all responsibility should something adverse happen.
For the first time, your doctor must do the injection. It is not difficult to self-inject, and it is up to the doctor to decide at what point s/he leaves you to it.

Your doctor is advised to keep you on Aimspro for six months to see what happens. If a patient does really well, the NHS may be approached to undertake further funding.

I have recently been contacted by a chain of pharmacies working in Glasgow who have been dispensing large numbers of Aimspro prescriptions. They are able to send these prescriptions to anywhere in mainland Europe. Click HERE for more information.

This page was last, actively, updated in May 2008 so it is likely this information is obsolete.
