Big Ideas that Changed the World
Big Ideas that changed the world was a series of four documentaries, but I managed to miss two of them. I’ll just have to watch out for the re-runs.
Capitalism
Capitalism may sound like a very dry subject, but surprisingly it is very interesting when put into it’s historical context. The ups and downs, the highs and lows from the days of the early American settlers to the modern day. How the drive to earn money impacts on so many other social facets and how it has profoundly changed, not always for the better, the world in which we live.
Environmentalism
Environmentalism is a subject I am sure nearly everybody is aware of. There’s hardly a day goes by when Global Warming doesn’t feature in a news bulletin. But what can be done about it. The Kyoto agreement promises that billions will be spent tackling the problem, but will this make a difference and is it really the best approach?
Egalitarianism
Jesse Jackson was a great campaigner for racial equality. Big Ideas screened the story of the struggle for this egalitarianism in the words of Jesse himself.
It is difficult to mention Jesse Jackson without including mention of the great Martin Luther King who’s ‘I have a dream’ speech murt be known by almost everybody on the planet.
There have been many life-shaping events over the years and the few, included here, are but a small sample.
