Cinnarizine (Stugeron)

First synthesised by Janssen Pharmaceutica in 1955, Cinnarizine is an anti-histaminic drug which can relieve dizziness from Vertigo and Travel Sickness. It works by interfering with the signal from the ear to the hypothalamus along the vestibular nerve. Cinnarizine is often distributed under the brand name Stugeron.

Used For

  • Tinnitus
  • Travel sickness

Possible Side Effects

Drowsiness

  • Dry mouth
  • Sweating
  • Headache

Less Common Side Effects

  • Skin rashes
  • Weight gain

From my own experience, I have found Cinnarizine to be quite effective at counter-acting the dizziness. I have long experienced bouts of dizziness but recently I succumbed to the winter vomiting virus and this has caused my dizzy spells to worsen considerably. This has affected my mobility and balance and walking has become increasingly difficult. Within 2/3 days of taking Cinnarizine my dizziness is back under control and I am feeling much more confident.
