Bank Fraud

A Warning about Emails you may Receive

The Bank Fraudsters are at it

This has nothing to do with Extraordinary Children but it is one of the most popular sections of this web site so I can hopefully reach more people with this warning.

It affects customers of the UK Banks Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds TSB and Barclays, that I know of, it may include others.

I have received a number of emails asking me to confirm my online banking account details

The links in these sample images do not work, intentionally.

The content of these emails may look like one of the following:

OR

OR

DO NOT ENTER YOUR DETAILS

The clues are in the URL it takes you to. It does not have the bank’s domain name, it uses an IP address and it is not using a secure connection. The web sites are convincing and have been made to look exactly like the bank’s genuine page.

BUT, I have received all of the above emails and I do not, or ever have, bank with Lloyds or Barclays. I bank with Bank of Scotland which is now part of the Halifax Group. I have contacted my bank and they are aware of these emails and are posting warnings on their internet banking site.

I would further ask that you email everyone you know to make them aware of this scam, refer them back to this page if you like.

NEW

They don’t give up! I have, in the last few days, received an email purporting to be from Chase Manhattan Bank asking me to "Verify account Information". Keep your guard up.

And, only today (17 Mar 2006) I got an email allegedly from CitiBank.
