Brody – Rock Band Extraordinaire
As I recollect Brody evolved from a band named Chakra and gigged regularly around Edinburgh and Fife. This was around the time Simple Minds were also playing the circuit, before they made it big. Brody were a very accomplished rock band who played mostly their own music. Playing was not restricted to Edinburgh and Fife, they travelled from Aberdeen down to Sunderland and were well received wherever they appeared. I remember, as for a year or two I served as a sound engineer with them before moving on to a young band, managed by Colin Archibald, The Cadets. The guitarist with The Cadets was one Colin McNair, son of Charlie McNair a well known Jazz Man of the day with whom Colin Archibald often played Bass Guitar. Brody recorded a demo tape, I don’t remember the year, which I still have somewhere. If I can find it and the photographs I’m sure I have I will post them here. After this I moved on to work with Rosetta Stone, the prodigies of Tam Paton, he of Bay City Rollers fame. It was great fun, but, eventually, I was forced to get a sensible job. I have never seen any of the guys since, but would love to get back in touch. Being involved with music was a fantastic time, but it really is a young man’s game. Footnote: It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Colin Archbald who I am informed died a month or two ago. |
