The latest craze that is driving us crazy

This page was triggered after reading in the Sun (A UK Tabloid Newspaper) today, 20 May 2005, that an increasing number of people are being driven demented by the incessant showing of the latest series of advertisements for the Crazy Frog Ring tones.

These are being shown ALL day on ALL of the commercial TV stations. Once, sometimes twice, in every Ad break.

The ring tone is based on the Axel F theme music from the Beverley Hills Cop series of movies, but it bears very little resemblance to the original.

The tone is irritating and annoying, made all the more aggravating by being shown every 15 minutes on prime time TV on all the commercial channels. What can be done about it? Well short of refusing to watch any commercial television for the next few weeks while this ad campaign is running, you could write or phone ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 and voice your strong disapproval.

On a more serious note, if you are considering, or know someone who is considering getting one of these ring tones, make sure you are aware of the cost. I understand that EACH ring tone will set you back £3.00 per WEEK. That can add up pretty quickly into a sizeable sum.

I for one will be avoiding commercial TV stations wherever possible, for the next few weeks, because I can’t afford a new television set. It’s highly likely that my TV could find a coffee cup lodged in the middle of the screen if I see this annoying frog, looks more like a gremlin to me, one more time!

Just as a footnote, while you may wish to contact the TV stations, please don’t contact the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) as they cannot do anything about the frequency that advertisements are shown, they only monitor the content of advertisements. They have, according to the Sun Newspaper, already received hundreds of calls complaining about this campaign.

Latest

Not only is it bad enough that the dreaded frog released a single which went straight to No. 1 in the UK charts, but now he is reported to be in a studio in Germany with cohorts Sweety Chick and Nessie the Dragon to record an album. Fortunately, the Sun Newspaper’s bizarre column is launching a “kill the frog” campaign to try and prevent the unthinkable happening.
